After a week of cloudy, overcast weather I was very happy to see the sun come out today! Planning on attending a talk about the NSA and Edward Snowden today, a friend and I got on the train down to Wannsee, only to learn that I had mixed up locations. So, you guessed it, we successfully missed the talk and while I bet that I would have liked the talk, I really enjoyed the views that Wannsee has to offer and the chance to soak up the sun.
Later on today, after having to stay indoors to work on scholarship applications, I went for a run near where I live. I ran past a piece of the Berlin wall that is standing as a memorial, I ran past open fields and through woods, all with the sun beating down and me and a crisp breeze helping me along. As I was running through the trails in the wooded park, I noticed how the park was alive in song. Up in the trees were tons of birds singing and talking to another. Not wanting to let that moment get away from me, I stopped running, closed my eyes and just listened. I focused on my heart beat and my breathing as I listened to the sounds that were all around me and as I felt the warmth of the sun hitting my face. It was a calm and blissful moment for me. While I love the city and the energy that comes with it, I always enjoy escaping into the nature every once in a while. I find it to be such a restoring and energizing experience.
While my family back in the States is still in the midst of winter with moments of spring-like warmth mixed in, I am grateful to be experiencing the full throws of the beginning of Spring… looking forward to more warmth filled, sunny days ahead 🙂
